Bottom Fishing/Wreck Fishing:

Bottom fishing is a very productive way to target fish that give a fight to remember! There are many different types of species that are targeted along the ocean bottom, depending on what depth you are fishing, structure and the bait you are using. Sometimes, bottom fishing requires a little finesse where light weights, light line and small hooks will be the only way to produce bites. At other times, it is necessary to use heavy lead, heavy line and larger hooks.

Certain times of the year, the shallow areas on top of the reef can hold a variety of different fish, including snapper and grouper. While we are targeting some of these fish on the shallow water reefs, you never really know what else you can encounter. This is what makes bottom fishing so exciting!

Wreck fishing another form of bottom fishing, where we drop a single live bait on a long leader, setting up a drift over and around artificial structure.

These structures can include sunken ships, old bridge rubble, sailboats and airplanes just to name a few. Some of these wrecks sunk deeper than others making it a challenge to pull these big bruisers out of their home. There are over 50 wrecks right in our Fort Lauderdale area alone. These wrecks hold a variety of species to include grouper, snapper, amberjack, barracuda, cobia and many more.
